The Machapunga Tribe of North Carolina

Protecting our Ancestral Legacy.

Protecting What We Hold Sacred

Climate change isn’t just a global crisis—it’s a direct threat to our homelands, our waters, and our way of life.

For the Machapunga–Mattamuskeet people, Lake Mattamuskeet is more than a body of water—it is a living relative, a sacred place tied to our ancestors and our survival. As rising waters, shifting seasons, and disappearing species reshape our world, we feel the impact deeply.

Protecting the Earth is protecting ourselves. This moment calls for unity, respect for Indigenous knowledge, and a shared commitment to healing the land before it’s too late.

Meet the Tribal Council

Our council is made up of dedicated leaders—descendants of the original caretakers of Lake Mattamuskeet—who carry the wisdom of our ancestors and the strength of our community.

Each member brings years of lived experience, cultural knowledge, and a deep commitment to protecting what matters most: our people, our history, and our future.

Together, we face today’s challenges with the same resilience our ancestors showed—grounded in tradition, driven by purpose, and united by love for our homeland.

Ready to take the next step?

This is more than a cause—it’s a calling. The movement to restore, protect, and uplift the Machapunga–Mattamuskeet Tribe depends on the hearts and hands of those who believe in justice, healing, and legacy.

Whether you give your time as a volunteer, offer a donation to help us grow, or raise your voice to support Indigenous rights—you are part of our story.

Every action, big or small, brings us closer to reclaiming what was taken and building a stronger future for generations to come.

🌾 We need you. Stand with us. Walk with us. Take action.

Affirmation of the Ancestors

I walk with the strength of those who came before me.
Their songs are in my breath, their dreams in my steps.
The earth remembers me. The water knows my name.
I am rooted in truth, guided by spirit, and rising with purpose.
Today, I honor my ancestors by living with courage, care, and clarity.
